The adjourned Annual General General Meeting of IACS will be held on 09.01.2012 at 11.00 a.m. in the MLS Hall of the Association.

Professor Debashis Mukherjee, Chairman of the Raman Center for Atomic, Molecular and Optical Sciences has been awarded the 2009 Chemical Pioneer Awards by the American Institute of Chemists (AIC) . The award will be presented at the AIC National Meeting 15 May 2009 to be held at the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF), Philadelphia. The award is made to an individual who has done pioneering work in the chemical sciences.


India joins the APCTP as a new member country ( APCTP Bulletin Cover and Contents).
India has become the 13th member country of the APCTP. At the 12th meeting of the Board of Trustees, held in consecution with the 11th meeting of the General Council, the India Association for the Cultivation of Science( IACS) joined and signed MOU with APCTP on International Academic Cooperation

The Centre for Advanced Materials, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science now has the status of a Partner Institution of International Centre for Materials Research (ICMR), University of California, Santa Barbara.

Professor D D Sarma, The MLS Chair Professor has been elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society for his outstanding contributions on electronic and magnetic properties of strongly correlated materials based on in-depth experimental and theoretical investigations.


Professor Swati Ray, Energy Research Unit has received the PVSEC Award for R&D of the Solar Energy Society of India.
Dr. Prasanta K. Das, Associate Professor Department of Biological Chemistry, has been awarded B.M. Birla Science Prize in Chemistry for the year 2006
Professor Kankan Bhattacharyya has been awarded the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) PRIZE in Chemistry for 2007. He is the Head, Department of Physical Chemistry at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science.

Professor Dipankar Das Sarma, MLS Chair Professor of Physics at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, has been elected as the Fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).


Mr. P Lakshminarayanan has been selected as the awardee of the ISCA Young Scientists Award Programme in the Section Chemical Sciences for the year 2007-08.

Professor Debashis Mukherjee, Director, IACS and Professor Kankan Bhattacharyya, Head, Department of Physical Chemistry have been awarded the J C Bose Fellowship of the DST for their outstanding contributions respectively in the fields of Theoretical Chemistry and Physical Chemistry.

Dr. Amitava Patra has been awarded the Ramanujan Fellowship for his significant contributions in the field Materials Science.

Professor Debashis Mukherjee delivered the prestigious Charles Coulson Lecture at the Centre for Computational Chemistry at the University of Georgia. Previous names in the honour list include John A. Pople, Ahmed Zewail, Martin Karplus, A D Buckingham and several other luminaries the the field of Theoretical Chemistry.

Dr Dipankar Das Sarma, MLS Chair Professor of Physics at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, has been selected for the prestigious Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) 2006 Prize in Physics for his significant contribution in various aspects of condensed matter physics. The Council of the Academy decided on this during the TWAS 10th General Conference & TWAS 17th General Meeting in Angra dos Reis, Brazil on 2 September. The prize carries a cash award of US$10,000 and a plaque, which will be presented to him on the occasion of the Academy's 18th General Conference in a special ceremony in Islamabad next year.

The annual TWAS prizes, awarded in eight fields of scientific research, rank among the highest accolades given to scientists in developing countries.

Prof. Das Sarma has recently taken up the MLS Chair Professorship at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science on lien from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has received numerous awards, including Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, UNESCO Biennial Javed Husain Prize, Sir C V Raman Award, G D Birla Award, and is a fellow of all three national science academies in India.


Professor Dipankar Das Sarma and Professor Kankan Bhattacharyya have been invited to serve as Members of the Advisory Editorial Board of the Journal of Physical Chemistry.
